For the DerryAirs, sea shanties have been a big focus since the start in December 2018, but the group’s songbook has been expanding steadily to include folk songs and pop songs. The band has an enthusiasm to tell stories of Cornwall through song. They say, “the harmonies we seek need equal amounts of perspiration and inspiration. We are putting in the perspiration, and the inspiration is all around us, in the sea, the sky, the rain and the wind. We hope you enjoy listening to some of our songs. You can find us at www.derryairs.com. and let’s hope we have a chance to be together soon.”
Deviock Community Music/Cornish Groove Collective
DCM now plays under the name Cornish Groove Collective. CGC holds its regular Tuesday night rehearsals during school term times at The British Legion Hall in Tideford. Doors open at 7pm, we start playing at 7.30 and finish at 9.00pm.
We welcome new members who fancy dusting down their instrument (or tonsils) and joining us. Anyone can play and/or sing with us regardless of musical ability. For more info, please telephone our MD Andy Painter on 07432 420 411 and/or email andy7painter@hotmail.com (please write ‘CGC’ in the subject box).
A small charge per session is made to cover our musical director's expenses and the hire cost of the hall. Please bring your own instrument plus amplification, leads and stands if required, all in safe working order.
More information about recent and upcoming gigs may be found on our Facebook page. www.facebook.com/CornishGrooveCollective/
Seaton Acoustic Folk and Blues is a monthly Open Mike session at The Smugglers Inn, Seaton on the second Friday of the month from 8.00pm. The session aims to provide an opportunity for people to sing, play, recite a verse, do a dance, tell a tale, or just have a watch, a listen and enjoy the “craic”.
There are two “rules” for the session:
- it is all acoustic, no electric guitars / keyboards / PA etc.
- be positive and encouraging, it’s not easy to get up and play / sing in front of people.
If you’re local, you’ll know that there’s plenty of car parking available.
There were four “acts” for the inaugural session in October 2021 and there were plenty of folks who came along for the ride, if you want to join in just give me a shout at the start of the session, I’m there around 7.30pm. Hope to see you there! Mike Shipman.

Theatre Group
'The Downderry & Seaton Theatre Group' was formed as a fun way to encourage local people to visit theatres, cinemas, music venues etc., without the hassle of organising or driving. This is usually in Cornwall and Devon, to experience a vast array of professional and amateur artists, mainly live or sometimes through recorded productions (from around the World). We attempt to offer at least one production a month. Communication is via email.
At present we have over 70 Members who can pick and choose what they fancy coming along to, not all productions will suit everyone. If you fancy joining the 'Group' you will be asked for a £10 membership fee (to cover the bulk buying of tickets in advance) which will be refunded to you if you decide to leave. If you make a booking, payment for the ticket will be on the day of the performance.
This is a great way to use our fantastic' Community Bus' which can accommodate 15 like-minded enthusiasts. We sometimes make a day of it, which will allow for so some shopping/sightseeing/a bite to eat etc.
The 5 Organisers are - Jane Mather, Beverley Brighton, Sandra Pearce, Chris Southey, Margaret Walters and Sue Unterrainer.
If you would like to become a Member please contact - Jane Mather 01503 250840.
